Our Mission
Democracy in Action is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening democracy through civic education, leadership development, sound public policy, and support for community organizations. We equip individuals, organizations, and under-resourced communities with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to understand government, participate in elections, influence public policy, and improve the quality of life in their communities.
What We Do
Our work rests on four pillars: Leadership Development, Advocacy and Public Policy, Health Equity, and Workforce Development. Through these pillars, we help communities create lasting solutions that expand opportunity, improve health outcomes, and prepare residents for success in the twenty-first century economy.
Where We Work
We have completed work in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Atlanta and surrounding communities in Georgia; Prince George’s County, Maryland; and New Orleans East, Louisiana. Our planned expansion includes Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and surrounding Louisiana communities, along with Jackson, Biloxi, and the Gulfport area in Mississippi.
